ATHY AGE ACTION CARE AND REPAIR SERVICE
On 1st February 2016 Athy Age Action launched their Care and Repair Service for all people aged 65 and over in the Athy Area. This Service is run in conjunction with Pat Leogue Social Inclusion Manager of Kildare Leader Partnership and TUS, with office space in the Athy Enterprise Centre kindly supplied through Helen Dowling Administrator of the Rapid Programme. We currently have a number of local volunteers with various skills in carpentry, electrical, gardening etc. We will recruit more volunteers as the need arises. Our aim is to help older people in the community by improving their housing conditions, their security and well-being.
Athy Age Action and Age Action Ireland are very conscious of a need in our local community for such a service that enables our older citizens who are no longer able to carry out basic DIY needs i.e. replacing light bulbs, smoke alarms, security locks, minor repairs, painting etc. By providing this service we hope to give them back some independence, control and comfort in their own homes. We have started to roll out this programme in Athy Co Kildare with the help of locally trained and garda vetted volunteers. We aim to provide for free basic services: such as: Minor Repairs, Trade Referrals, Quote Check Service, Contact calls and home visits if requested by any of our clients.
These are the services that are being provided in our local community:
Minor Repairs: light DIY, small painting jobs, changing light bulbs, checking smoke alarms, light gardening, light electrical and carpentry.
Trade Referrals: we can refer the client to a local reliable tradesman if the job is beyond the scope of our service.
Quote Check Service: If requested by our client, we can check and compare quotes given for any larger jobs.
Contact Calls: If requested by any client we can undertake a regular call time with them or a daily check in call, whatever best meets the needs of the individual client.
